At Roebuck Baptist Church we want you to know we take seriously the health and safety of your children. We have just completed a $40,000 upgrade to our nursery area with new safety measures, new toys and a great nursery committee. Listed below are the policies and procedures that we have set up to make you, the parent, very comfortable about leaving your child in our nursery.

Nursery Policies & Guidelines

The purpose of our nursery is:

* To provide a safe and secure place for parents to leave their children while serving the Lord through other ministries and worship.

* To nurture little ones physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

* To help children begin to associate God and the Lord Jesus with loving people and enjoyable activities.

* To help children know that they are a special part of our church family.

* To begin to teach each child about God and His love, simple Bible truths through our monthly themed activities, through loving care, and through our examples.

* To insure the success of this ministry, the nursery committee is committed to the following:

* To strictly adhere to health rules, including taking proper CPR courses, cleanliness and proper space requirements.

* To have an environment where children are happy and comfortable.

* To ensure the safety and well-being of the children.

* To be consistent in caring and teaching our children.

Thank you for trusting us to love your child.  We take this responsibility seriously and seek God’s help in this ministry daily.  We will be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns that you might have.

Coming to the Nursery

For the Parent:

  1. Be sure you have completed an “All About Me Information Chart” for each child you have in the nursery department. (babies to 4 years old)
  2. Please have your child’s name on his/her diaper bag, bottle, or cup.  We encourage you to bring an extra set of clothes in case of an accident.

For children in the 18 month – 3 year old room, please provide your own sippy cup.

For 3 year old – 4 year old a Styrofoam cup, lid, and straw will be provided.

    3.   Please DO NOT bring your child if he/she is ill or has been in the past 24 hours
          (please see our health policies)
  1. Be sure you have been assigned to a beeper.  This is also to be returned when picking up your child(ren).
  2. If another child (at least 12 years old) or adult is picking your child up, please make sure the nursery workers are aware and have them bring the beeper to pick him/her up.
  3. Please have only one person to pick up your child, this way we will cut down on the amount of traffic in the nursery rooms and therefore keeping it cleaner.
  4. We do not mind you checking on your little one, however, we ask that you refrain from disturbing him/her.  If you child has been upset (up to 10 minutes) without consoling, we will notify you.
  5. For nursing mothers, we have a partition wall in our infant room for your privacy.  We also ask that you feed your child prior to dropping him/her off, so that we won’t have to call you out of a service.

For the Workers:

1.                  Please arrive 10-15 minutes early, if you are unable to work on your scheduled date, please try to arrange for someone to fill in your place.  Please notify one of the committee members for that month.

2.                   Please make arrangements for siblings 5 years and older to sit with another parent.

3.                  Please be sure to use proper sanitary tools, such as, changing pad for changing diapers, gloves, and washing hands after changing a diaper or taking a little one to the potty.  Please also have him/her wash their hands.

4.                  If a child seems sick or has gotten sick in any way, notify the parent as soon as possible.

5.                  If there has been any spilled liquids, throwing up, or other instances in any of the rooms, please clean up with the absorbing beads, and notify the monthly coordinator.

6.                  Please read to or let children listen to any of our newly purchased books and CD’s.

7.                  If any toys, books, puzzles, etc. have been broken or pieces missing, please take out of room and notify the monthly coordinator.

8.                  Snacks are provided by the church, please make sure you have permission from the parent(s) on what snacks their child can have and when.

9.                  For the Bed Babies, please fill out the “Nursery News” form for the parents, this is to let them know what their child did during the service.  Place in the appropriate diaper bag.

Staff Responsibilities

Nursery Committee:

The nursery committee is made up of 5 people.  There is a chairperson and four other members.  Our responsibility is to make sure that Roebuck Baptist Church’s nursery wing is providing the best possible care for each child entering our doors.

We rotate on a monthly basis to greet the parents and children.  This allows us to be aware of any new visitors that may come to our church.  We strive in keeping this facility clean and safe.

*Arrive 10-15 minutes early to assign beepers to parents and place children in the appropriate classrooms.  For the Sunday School service, have supply cabinet open for the teachers to get any items they may need.

*Make sure child has “All About Me” sheet filled out, if any allergies are noted, please put a sticker with the child’s name and what he/she is allergic to. (labels are located in cabinet)

*Pass out snacks and juice to Sunday School teachers when needed.

*Make sure rooms have been picked up.  Wipe down cribs (used), changing tables, mirrors, and anything else that has been used.

*Make sure linens are washed weekly and returned, and toys are washed weekly and put back in appropriate room for next service.

Health Policies

If your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her with you.  We cannot allow children in the nursery if they are sick, we feel that:

    1. A child who is sick is best comforted by mom or dad.
    2. Well children should not be exposed to sick children.
    3. The teacher cannot effectively teach and take care of a sick child at the same time.

Please do not bring a child to the nursery that has any of the following symptoms:

a.       a runny nose with discolored mucus

b.       an above normal fever (over 98.6 orally or 99.6 rectally)

c.       an irritating cough that has persisted for more than 48 hours.

d.       drainage in the eyes, conjunctivitis, or pink eye.

e.       Irritability and fever due to immunizations in last 24 hours.

f.        undiagnosed rashes

g.       diarrhea or vomiting within 24 hours

h.       parasites such as lice, mites, or ringworms.

If in the event that your child has begun running a fever you will be notified immediately.  We do have a First Aid kit that has basic medications for your use, if you wish to do so.

Our church has been blessed with many members in the medical profession.  We have a church Nurse: Marsha Ball who has graciously helped equip the nursery committee with CPR training courses, and the basic emergency protocol.  We will have a list of what to do and what members to notify in case of a major emergency.
